Sunday Brunchin'

The Grounds of Alexandria
St Aleandria

It was a fine Sunday morning and a catch up with the folks was in order. With my parents being huge garden enthusiasts, I thought I’d take them to a beautiful café sanctuary hidden within the heart of Inner Sydney. It goes by the name of The Grounds of Alexandria.

As soon as you step into the Grounds, you’re taken into a garden of paradise filled with beautiful greenery, florals, adorable small animals, and most importantly, delicious food, made fresh from produce picked straight from the Ground’s very own little garden.

The place is busy on a Sunday morning, filled with families and small groups of chirpy people, excited to get their Grounds fix. Despite the half an hour wait for a table, we were kept busy and calmed by the peaceful surroundings (and different dessert stalls that filled the space).

The menu is jam packed with seasonally driven dishes, using the freshest and finest ingredients. The Grounds are also known for their rich and aromatic coffee, created and brewed, again by the very own Grounds team.

Fresh food and good coffee? What more can you want on a Sunday morning?

Once we were given a table, we ordered the breakfast burger, their signature avocado toast, the brekkie board with freshly squeezed juices and coffee on the side.

As we munched through all the food, you can taste the high-quality and freshness of every single dish. It was absolutely delicious. We devoured all the components of the plate and enjoyed it even more with the beautiful picture perfect surroundings.

We loved the atmosphere and fresh food this place created, the only downfall was how crowded it was and the wait for a table. But that just means it’s an opportunity for the Grounds to expand and open more beautiful little cafes in Sydney, right? We hope so.

Let's taco 'bout last night!

BARRIO CELLAR
Sydney
Mid week blues? How about some burgers, tacos and tequila? I vote a very big yes please.

True to its name, Barrio, meaning neighborhood in Spanish, this city neighborhood joint holds an impressive cellar of the finest tequila, and of course, delicious Mexican cuisine. Barrio Cellar is located in the basement of the Martin Place heritage building, and it’s sunken cellar has an Art Deco feel as soon as you walk in.

Everything with Tequila!

Those are the words you’re greeted with in vibrant red neon lights, just before you are headed downstairs to a beautiful space with a speakeasy and welcoming vibe.

The menu boasts Mexican goodness, serving up entrees like your standard guacamole and chips, ceviche and corn cobs. Mains includes a variety of bit-sized tacos, hamburgers, quesadillas and tortas, whilst desserts involve delicious churros ice cream sandwiches and nutella chimichangas.

My friend and I ordered some guacamole and chips, burgers with fries, and some cheeky naked lady tequila cocktails on the side to sip on. As we divulged into all the food and drinks, the mixture of flavours and textures felt like we were taken straight to an night beach shack in Tulum. The burger was juicy and had a great mustard punch to it, the chips were seasoned to perfection and the cocktails went down a treat. Soft met crunchy, our bellies were happy, and just like that! Our hump day blues were gone.

Overall, the experience was spot on. We'll be coming back soon!

Burgers for the boys!

Grill'd

Chatswood

After a long day of work featuring irate and irrational customers, a burger trip was needed. After a short walk from Westfield parking we ventured into the restaurant hoping to satisfy our hunger.

As soon as we walked in the smell of patties cooking and the sounds of chatter and music engulfed. The people at the counters were very polite and patient despite how busy the restaurant was and the stress they were undergoing.

They had plenty of different options on the menu. I was craving something spicy so I ordered the chilli addict with a beef patty, jalapenos, sour cream, cheese and chilli relish

The decor was very cool and trendy, featuring all the
components of a modern hipster cafe. There was plenty of pop art on the walls without it being overwhlming. Definitely one of the best components of the entire restaurant.

The music was also similar with it mainly focuses on electronic and indie styles which match the decor and vibe of the restaurant well

Now for the most important part. The food!

The beef patty and bun were perfect and the vegetables included matched the flavours well. Sort of like a spicy taco in a bun with an emphasis on the spice! I was crying by the end of the meal. Chips were also nice but all of our food arrived and very different times which tarnished the overall experience a bit.
