I Think Im Turning Japanese, I Really Think So!

Mino Mino

Mosman

I feel like ive landed in Tokyo every time i step foot into this restaurant. Tucked away in mosman, this word of mouth restaurant is traditional in every way.
Mino is a Japanese restaurant that specializes in Kaiseki menu. Basically explaining dishes that are presented in smaller sizes.

My entree dish was sashimi, my friend has already started on hers when I realized that we have different selection of sashimi. For my Goshu course, I got tuna, salmon and kingfish. With Mino course, she got tuna, salmon and aji (horse mackarel). The sashimi was real fresh, even my friend who doesn't usually like tuna sashimi enjoyed hers.

Every single dish represents a method of cooking : futamono (lidded dish, in this case the buckwheat noodle soup), yakimono(grilled dish, the fishes), su zakana (vinegared dishes, the prawns and the scallops below), agemono (deep fried dishes, like the pork and duck).

Although the I didnt end up going with the 6 course meal option I believe even choosing 2 of the dishes will fill you up substantially.

Delicious Dumpling Dinner

Din Tai Fung

World Square

When the real dumpling cravings hits, I know I can always count on Din Tai Fung to get my dumpling fix. Located in World Square, this place was super convenient to get to, with only being five minutes away from Town Hall station.

The restaurant is bright, modern and has a fitting Taiwanese oriental touch to it. We were given a buzzer to wait for our table, as it was a weeknight and the place was bustling. Thankfully, the wait didn’t last for too long and we were swiftly taken to our seats.

Now, Din Tai Fung is internationally renowned for their signature Xiao Long Bao’s (XLB), which in English, translates to steamed pork dumplings. These XLB’s are measured precisely between 4.8 and 5.2 grams and are filled between 20.8 and 21.2 grams. These little gems are then folded into 18 delicate intricate folds, just before being tucked into the steamer for exactly three minutes, and only less than one minute being tucked into our bellies. The XLB’s at Din Tai Fung bursts in your mouth with flavour (literally) and is just absolutely exquisite.

Besides the XLB’s, we ordered the green beans with minced pork, the spicy shrimp and pork wonton noodles and the shrimp and pork shao mai. All the dishes were so delicious and amazing. Everything was cooked perfectly. Last but not least, for dessert, we ordered some green tea ice cream and a golden lava bun, which were both a great way to end the delicious feast.

Afternoon Treat

Café Albero Australia

Ryde

After a long shift at work I was looking for something sweet to get me through the rest of the day.
With not long before the start of my second shift I went for a short stroll the Top Ryde Shopping centre.
Stumbling across Café Albero I decided to give it a try.

Offering a display case full of delicious treats, I opted for the Apple Crumble Tart.
They also have many of the trendy smoothies and shakes that are in at the moment, but I decided to go for a classic chocolate milkshake.
My milkshake went down a treat, plenty of chocolate and creamy just the way I like it.
The Apple Crumble Tart was a bit soggy but still delicious and paired perfectly with my milkshake. All in all it was the perfect little treat to get me through the rest of the day.

The Family friendly Pub

The Coolibah Hotel
(Bistro 76)

After a long hard day of soccer, a few of the boys from our team gathered back at the hotel for a few quite drinks and delving into the quality finger food provided by the Hotel. This was a brilliant way for team members to slowly get familiar with other players, rather than just simply knowing them on the pitch. It served as a team bonding exercise and also was a great way to relaxing the body after a strenuous exercise.

The atmosphere within the hotel is fantastic as it offers the best of both worlds; it has an abundance of Television screens situated within various positions of the hotel.  This allows individual’s to enjoy Saturday afternoon footy, watch the A-league or even follow the English Premiere League later at night. The venue’s large size caters for large groups of individuals to come along and enjoy their night in whatever way suits themselves. It also has a generally kids friendly area which is situated away from the bar but also close to the bistro service, thus allowing families to enjoy the facilities within the hotel aswell. I Had the Calamari. The crumb was a bit oily but overall the salad amped up the dish. The homemade Mayo was a smash!

However on the negative side, during our visit here the service for food was very slow, maybe due to the fact that it was peak time on a Saturday or the fact that our order was quite large in size. Maybe even the kitchen staffs were short on numbers or stock. All these factors may have contributed to the output shown on this day. Nevertheless, I am certain that this place is a right venue for families and friends of all ages. Give it a go I say !!!

Did You Say Snails?

The Little Snails Restaurant

Pyrmont

Garden snails. The things you find in your backyard. The shells you step on after in rains in Summer. Take you back to when you were a kid, collecting them in a bucket.
Snails, its not something I would have ever considered eating.

BUT  OH BOY WAS A I WRONG!

I have known about The Little Snail for quite some time, but I’ve only managed to visit it the other day. The Little Snail restaurant is located in the iconic Darling Harbour, Sydney. I was actually quite surprised when learning that for 3-course lunch menu, they ‘only’ charge $38. I think it’s quite a decent price given the location of the restaurant.

For mains, I had the beef tenderloin with a red wine jus and the salmon on crab risotto. The beef was delicious and very well cooked. The jus was rich and flavoursome and it was a satisfying dish to eat.

The salmon was also well cooked, the risotto and roasted pepper coulis were the perfect accompaniment.

Calamari was perfectly cooked; lightly crunchy batter and soft and succulent meat, with no chewiness at all.

The Snails, were a dish to share. Cause when you are at a French Resturant ... why not?

The snails... Oh my, the snails. In a rich butter and garlic sauce! A must try here.
I wasnt expecting so much flavour. I must say having snail for the first time is weird. The texture is unusual. But looking beyond that and you will be encapsulated with the seasoning, the fresh combination of herbs and the side of fresh bread.

The desserts of creme caramel and sticky date pudding were a great finish to the meal. The right portion size was given. The date pudding was moist with a light caramel drizzle placed all over.  A wonderful treat to end the night!

The servings are good and overall it was a great experience.
